PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Dear colleagues, friends, and people of AOC,

Here in the Midwestern US, we rejoice over another year of abundance of harvest. To begin with, I would like to extend my sincere season’s greetings to everyone who is associated with our AOC family, and hope all is going well with each and every one of you!

Before assuming this presidency, I served as the web chair, the vice president, and then the president-elect of AOC. Based on all the insights I have learned about our organization in the past several years, I am impressed by the leadership and hard work of the AOC board. In connection to my work plan and duties during my term, I feel deeply obliged to express my sincere appreciation and congratulations to the work well done by the executive board of AOC under the leadership of our two immediate past presidents, Dr. Changying Li and Dr. Lingying Zhao, who have instilled a great deal of new excitement into our organization. They have created impactful initiatives and momentums that require this new board to carry on and extend further.

The growth of AOC has been strong and steady, because of the contributions from so many of you who have given your dedication and passionate enthusiasm to this organization. Particularly we need to recognize the great leadership provided by my fourteen predecessors and their executive board members: without their contributions, today’s prosperity of AOC would not be possible. I am humbled by their outstanding achievements but also encouraged by your trust. I will be working with vice president Dr. Zhiming Qi and this executive board to keep AOC on course of its success and growth.

While my central goal is to keep up the current success of our program, here are some prioritized tasks on my agenda:

1.   To continue the tradition of a strong mission commitment of AOC leadership and enable AOC to fulfill its core mission, which is “to promote information exchange and networking among agricultural, biological, and food engineers of Chinese origin worldwide, to facilitate collaboration in research and educational exchange, and to encourage professional development”.

2.    Ensure the continuation of new policies and practices of AOC. In the past two years, AOC has initiated some new programs such as AOC Fellow, AOC Institutional Membership, AOC Advisory Board, and Student Research Proposal Competition. During my presidency, I will continue working with our board members to ensure the quality of these new initiatives and programs.

3.    Further improve the effectiveness and functionality of AOC web page. AOC web is not only a vital tool for information sharing and exchange among our members, but also a window for the public to discover and reach our organization. Though significant improvements have been made through the years, the contents of the web need to be enriched and updated on a more timely basis.

I summon your continued loyalty and support to AOC. Please provide me with your suggestions and critiques of the leadership team. As a final remark: let’s work together to continue our legacy and pride; and let’s keep pushing forward and creating new boundaries!

Thank you!

Lie Tang
